It will feature - The Story of Buttermilk: The Past and The Present

The Dunfanaghy Workhouse is known for its part in the tragic history of what we call An Gorta Mór or The Great Hunger.

Over the years, the building's purpose has changed many times but thanks to The Workhouse board of directors, management team and local community, it is now a heritage centre that operates as a non-profit organisation.

The Workhouse team will explore the history of buttermilk as part of Past to Apron, an online Culinary History Conference.

As well as an overview of the history of The Workhouse, the team’s talk will focus on the importance of buttermilk in the Workhouse diet and a few little-known facts about buttermilk.

Sian McCann from Wild Fuschia Bakehouse will be putting a modern twist on the old classic soda bread and discussing the history of this much loved Irish bread, including the question mark over its origins.

The Past to Apron Conference will also explore a range of transatlantic foodie issues including Herbalism, the History of Alcohol in Newfoundland and Labrador and much more.

Tickets can be bought for the individual talks or a weekend pass will allow you the freedom to watch when you like.

The conference takes place online on Saturday next, June 25 and further information about the talks and ticket options can be found by following the link to Past to Aprons link https://pasttoapron.heysummit.com/?sc=WvZulaH0
