€3 million needed to upgrade Donegal Island roads , survey finds

It would cost in excess of €3m to bring all the roads on the islands of the Donegal west coast up to standard.
That's among the findings of a comprehensive survey of the seven islands by John Hegarty, Glenties Municipal Engineer which was presented to the Donegal Islands Committee at their meeting on Gola Island on Tuesday.
It would cost €1,687,823 alone to repair the roads on Arranmore Island.
Arranmore is the largest of the islands and the estimated €1,687, 823 is made up of €331,204 for the island's five county roads and €1,356,614 for the ten non-county roads.
The estimated cost of repairing the roads on Tory Island, the second largest of the islands, is estimated at €761,250, made up of €357,000 for non-county roads and €315,000 for the island's non-county roads.
The remainder of the €1,687,283 would cater for work on Owey Island, off Cruit Island (€132,000), Inishfree off Burtonport, (€66,000), Rutland, off Burtonport (€60,000), and Inishkeeragh, Dungloe, (€59,400). The figures are estimations and based on current prices.
