The successful Glengad 5K brought people together to remember Christopher and support a worthy cause

A fantastic total of €4,020 has been raised through a charity 5K run and walk held in memory of popular Malin man Christopher ‘Jeckey’ McLaughlin.

The event took place on Saturday, September 5, with participants travelling from near and far to take part and support the fundraiser in memory of Christopher, who died in Boston, Massachusetts, three years ago.

Christopher was a well-known and popular young man in the local community and was also a talented sportsman.

The money raised from the event will go towards The Gavin Glynn Foundation and other childhood cancer charities which have supported Christopher’s young niece Christie and her family.

Two-year-old Christie Doherty has undergone intensive treatment after being diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer before she had reached her first birthday.

The fundraising event was organised with the aim of supporting the charities which have provided assistance to Christie and her family during an incredibly difficult period.

Glengad Community Centre said it was “delighted” to announce the final fundraising total of €4,020 and expressed its gratitude to everyone who helped make the event such a success.

“A huge thank you to everyone who travelled from near and far to take part in our 5K,” the community centre said.

“Your support made the day what it was, and we really appreciate every single person who came along.”

The organisers also paid tribute to the many volunteers who helped ensure the event ran smoothly, including stewards, the first aid team, water station helpers and those who provided refreshments.

Special thanks were also extended to An Garda Síochána for safely leading the runners around the course, while Inishowen AC was praised for its assistance in coordinating the event.

The community centre also thanked everyone who donated, baked, helped out or supported the fundraiser in any way.

A special acknowledgement was given to the event’s sponsors and local businesses whose support helped make the day possible.

The organisers said the €4,020 raised was a “fantastic amount” and paid tribute to the local community for getting behind the event.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of our fantastic local community,” they added.
