Fake bank notes circulating in Donegal - here’s how to spot them

Gardaí are warning business owners to be extra vigilant
Fake bank notes have been detected in circulation in Donegal, and gardaí are warning businesses to be extra vigilant.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochana Donegal said: “It has come to our attention that counterfeit Bank Of England £20 Sterling notes were in circulation in Letterkenny over recent days.
“Always check all bank notes thoroughly at points of payment and in relation to this particular type of note, check the area where the foil patch with a 3D image of the Coronation Crown is located on the top left side. The patch peels off the fraudulent notes and the wording 'prop money' or 'for props only' is printed underneath.”
This is not the first time that these particular notes have been found in the county.
“Similar types of fraudulent £20 notes were in circulation in the county before,” said the spokesperson. “They look like good copies at first glance but always take a closer look and be vigilant.
“Business owners, please advise your staff in relation to these dud notes. Don't be caught out!”
