The Glencolmcille Parish Council has called proposed closure of the tourism college in Killybegs “shortsighted in the extreme” and backed the campaign to keep it open.

The loss of the tourism college would be a detrimental blow to the south west Donegal peninsula, the council agreed at its meeting this week. Cathaoirleach Liam Ó Cuinneagáin said the college’s record in its commitment to the communities locally, county-wide and nationally is second to none. “Many local people have benefited from its full-time and part-time courses and have gained employment in tourism locally as a result,” he added. The college also “plays a central role in the local economy, by the contribution of students, staff and guest activities”.
