The countdown is on to one of Inishowen’s best-loved community events as Gleneely Sports Day returns on Saturday, July 25, promising an afternoon packed with fun, friendly competition, and entertainment for all ages.
Taking place from 2pm, organisers are hoping for good weather and a bumper crowd at the annual family day out, which has become a highlight of the local summer calendar. Everyone is welcome to attend.
This year’s event will feature races for all ages, a Bonny Baby competition, BBQ, tea room, obstacle course, and bouncy castles, with plenty more activities promised throughout the afternoon.
Gleneely Sports Day has long been renowned for its quirky and entertaining programme of events, with previous years featuring everything from the famous steamroller race, sack races and wheelbarrow races to chariot races, golf putting contests and strength-testing weightlifting challenges. Penalty kick competitions have also proved hugely popular with younger participants and football fans alike.
The event has built a reputation for offering something for everyone, whether you're competing, cheering on family and friends, or simply enjoying the community atmosphere over a cup of tea and a burger from the barbecue.
Admission is €5, while children under the age of 16 go free. Organisers have also reminded attendees that children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
