Glengad 5K to honour memory of much-loved Malin man Christopher ‘Jeckey’

Walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities are invited to take part in Saturday’s charity event
A charity 5K will take place in Glengad this Saturday in memory of popular Malin man Christopher ‘Jeckey’ McLaughlin, who died in Boston, Massachusetts three years ago.
The Glengad 5K gets underway at 11am on Saturday, September 5, from Glengad Community Centre, with walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities invited to take part.
Christopher, who passed away on March 23, 2023, was a former Malin GAA player who progressed through the club’s underage ranks before making a number of appearances for the senior team. He later emigrated, first to London and subsequently to Boston.
Malin GAA previously paid tribute to Christopher, remembering not only his performances in the club’s famous Black and Amber jersey, but also his “happy-go-lucky” personality, his constant smile and his love of a chat and a laugh.
All proceeds from Saturday’s event will go to The Gavin Glynn Foundation, which supports families travelling abroad for childhood cancer treatment, along with other childhood cancer charities.
Registration takes place at Glengad Community Centre on Friday evening from 7pm to 8pm, or from 9am on Saturday morning. Entry costs €10 for adults, €5 for children under 16 and €20 for a family.
Prizes will be awarded to the top overall finishers, as well as local competitors.
Organisers are also appealing for donations of baking and sweet treats for refreshments following the 5K.
