Homes under threat, as firefighters rush to major wildfire outbreak in Clonmany

A major wildfire has broken out in Clonmany tonight, with the flames understood to be threatening a number of homes in the area.

Firefighters from across Inishowen are currently on the scene, desperately battling the flames, which can be seen from miles away.

It’s understood that the blaze broke out shortly after 9pm in the Annaugh townland, which is thick with smoke.

As of 10.30pm, the fire is still raging, as firefighters try desperately to bring it under control.

Firefighters are hampered too, by the inaccessible hillside terrain, much of which is not served by roads, making things even more difficult.

It is not yet clear whether some homes have been evacuated but many locals fear that properties are under threat.
