Inishowen event to explore food justice and seed sovereignty

Moville Community Garden event will explore food, health, sustainability and the importance of protecting local seed knowledge.
An inspiring evening celebrating food justice, seed sovereignty and community resilience will take place at Moville Community Garden today, August 29, from 6pm.
Seeds & Solidarity is being hosted by Moville Community Garden and Moville Pop Up Picture House, in association with ChangeMakers Donegal and Inishowen Development Partnership. The event will welcome anyone interested in gardening, sustainability, food growing and community action.
The evening will explore the important connections between food, health, land and community, while highlighting the growing importance of protecting and sharing local seed knowledge.
A key feature of the evening will be a short seed sovereignty workshop, delivered with the Swilly Gardening Club from Buncrana, following the success of their recent programme. The workshop will allow participants to explore the theme of seed sovereignty and its importance to community resilience.
The event will also feature a screening of the thought-provoking documentary Farming Is Medicine by Dr Rupa Marya and Deep Medicine Circle, offering an opportunity to reflect on the connections between food, health, land and community.
Everyone is welcome, and anyone interested in gardening, food growing, sustainability or community action is encouraged to come along.
The evening will begin at 6pm, with the programme continuing with talks, food, a seed sovereignty workshop and an outdoor film screening.
As the organisers put it, the event is an opportunity to nourish not only the garden and community, but also the mind and spirit.
The message behind the evening is perhaps best captured in the words of environmental activist Vandana Shiva: “Whatever happens to seed affects the web of life.”
