'Gaza and the West Bank are still facing severe destruction and loss of life. All of the social, economic, cultural, and human rights impacts have been devastating'

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirit of solidarity among those in attendance at the latest antiwar rally in Buncrana.

The event was held at Castle Bridge on Sunday, December 7, when protesters once again called for an end to the unjustifiable Israeli onslaught on Gaza.

The Inishowen branch of Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) organised monthly protests and marches on local bridges (known as ‘brigils’) throughout 2025, and sadly, they say, these will now have to continue into 2026.

A spokesperson for the group said that as we approach the end of another year of extreme violence in Palestine, humanitarian concerns still top the list.

The Inishowen IPSC once again condemned the continuing Israeli attacks on the Palestinian population.

“Gaza and the West Bank in particular are still facing severe destruction and loss of life. All of the social, economic, cultural, and human rights impacts have been devastating,” a spokesperson said.

“The huge disparity in casualties and deaths clearly demonstrates how these barbaric and cruel actions, perpetrated by Israel and its occupying army, are not defensive actions, as they claim, but are a very obvious genocidal campaign to annihilate as many Palestinians as they can and destroy all of the means needed for basic survival and living.”

They added: “People stopping at our various events, including our weekly information stalls throughout Inishowen, have all expressed disbelief that the so-called peace plan does not even attempt to address key issues such as occupation, apartheid, hostages held, and torture in prisons. Not any accountability for the tens of thousands of deaths, the estimated 30,000 orphaned children, nor the many thousands of amputees, of which, at least another 30,000 children have lost one or more limbs,” said the spokesperson for the group.

The antiwar lobby said it is “extremely frightening” that after more than two years of this “violent genocide”, it is becoming normalised, while civil liberties are being restricted in countries such as the US and UK against peaceful protesters who oppose genocide and support humanitarian values.

The Inishowen IPSC has described the ongoing Israeli actions as “ethnic cleansing at its worst”.
