A man has been charged in connection with a spate of burglaries in south west Donegal.

While the man has been charged by Gardai, a male juvenile, who was also arrested on Friday morning, has been released without charge.

The man, who is aged in his 20s, will now appear before Letterkenny District Court on August 31.

The pair were arrested on Friday on suspicion of committing a number of burglaries in the Kilcar and Ardara areas. The alleged offences were committed between January and August of this year.

The two were arrested when Gardai swooped following a planned operation by officers in the Ballyshannon Garda District.

A number of items of stolen property were also recovered during the operation.

After being arrested, the two were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The man was charged by Garda in Ballyshannon.

The male teenage juvenile was released without charge. Gardai say that a file will be prepared for consideration for admission to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme.

A Garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
