The man became abusive in Ballybofey when approached by Gardaí

A Killygordon man who began ‘ranting and raving’ to Gardai in an abusive manner has been fined in court.

The case of Terry Suffredini, a 28-year-old from Dromore Park, Killygordon, was charged in connection with an incident at Main Street, Ballybofey on January 23, 2022.

Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that Suffredini began shouting ‘f*gg*ts’ to Gardaí, who were on patrol in the area.

Suffredini followed by calling members of the public ‘rats’.

Sergeant Collins said Suffredini was directed to leave the area, but continued being abusive to Gardaí and the public.

“He was ranting and raving,” Sergeant Collins said.

The court heard that Suffredini had previous convictions for road traffic, public order and misuse of drugs offences.

“He should know better,” Judge Alan Mitchell said.

Suffredini was charged with engage in threatening, abusive or insulting words of behaviour in a public place and also with failing to comply with Garda direction to desist. Both offences are contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994.

Suffredini was convicted and fined €300, given six months to pay.
