Mark Anthony McGinley makes return to Ulster Senior League
Goalkeeper McGinley has left Finn Harps by mutual consent and will feature in the 2022/23 Ulster Senior League season
Mark Anthony McGinley has signed for Letterkenny Rovers ahead of the new Ulster Senior League season, Donegal Live can confirm.
Goalkeeper McGinley has moved to Letterkenny after parting ways with Finn Harps. McGinley and Harps arrived at a mutual agreement about a departure and the 32-year-old has inked the dotted line for Rovers.
The Ards man was Harps’ player of the season in 2019 and 2020. While McGinley was Harps’ first choice goalkeeper this season again, he was replaced by Gavin Mulreany after a 3-0 defeat at Sligo in June.
After Gavin Mulreany played in games against St Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne, McGinley made two further appearances against Derry City and Dundalk.
However, following the arrival of former Grimsby Town netminder James McKeown - who has kept goal in Harps’ last four games - McGinley made his exit. Leckview Park is his next destination with Rovers set to face Bonagee United in the FAI Intermediate Cup on September 11.
“Mark Anthony is a top class goalkeeper and we’re delighted to add him to our squad,” Rovers manager Danny McConnell said.
“He has come down from the Premier Division of the League of Ireland and was one of Harps’ best players over the last few seasons. He brings experience and quality into our dressing room.”
Rovers have also added Johnny Robb from Maiden City, former Derry City youth Colm Paul Robb and defender Charlie White, the Carrigans man formerly of Finn Harps Under-19s and who more recently was with Newbuildings FC.
Christopher O’Donnell, who was Rovers’ goalkeeper in the USL last season, has signed with Donegal League Premier Division side Kildrum Tigers. Previously, O’Donnell lined out at Castlefin Celtic.
