Night-time works to replace water mains that had caused a road in Clonmany to be closed have come to an end.

The work in Straid to replace more than 600 metres of old water mains which are susceptible to regular bursts and high levels of leakage is due to be completed in February.

The L1551 from the  Clonmany Fireplace Centre past Urris GAA Club to St Columba’s Church in Straid had been closed at night to allow work in Straid to replace more than 600 metres of old water mains which are susceptible to regular bursts and high levels of leakage is due to be completed in February.

Uisce Éireann said the nighttime work has advanced ahead of schedule and that phase of the project is now complete, which will reduce impacts on local residents and customers.

“We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while the road closure was in place,” a spokesperson said.

The utility said no further nighttime works or associated road closures will be required as part of this project and works will be limited to daytime hours. A traffic light system will be in place in Straid along the L-1551 for the duration of the works.
