Plans lodged for conversion of former post office in Buncrana into residential unit

The planned conversion of the post office would see it transformed into a one-bedroom cottage
Donegal County Council has received a planning application for the conversion of a former post office in Buncrana into a residential unit.
Patrick Doherty submitted the application which proposes changing the use of the post office on Drumminderry Upper and Lower in Buncrana as well as constructing an extension to the proposed residential dwelling.
The existing cottage beside the post office is also owned by Doherty and the planning application includes extensive works on a new shared wastewater system between the two properties.
The plans include decommissioning the existing combined treatment system and installing a new one a percolation area as well as all other associated works.
The cottage that is there currently has two bedrooms and the proposed conversion of the post office would see that have one bedroom. Within the plans for the wastewater treatment system, it reveals that it should serve at least six residents between the two properties. Donegal County Council are due to make a decision on the proposal by May 4, 2025.
