Onam is the annual harvest and cultural festival of India

Ponnnonam Ponnarangu 2026 was celebrated in Letterkenny with a rich cultural showcase and community spirit.

The vibrant cultural spirit of India was brought to life in Letterkenny on Sunday, August 23, as the local Indian community gathered at the Aura Leisure Centre for the Onam celebration.

Onam is India's annual harvest and cultural festival, symbolising unity, prosperity, and the legendary homecoming of the benevolent King Mahabali. Renowned for its messages of inclusivity, harmony, and gratitude, the festival transcends cultural boundaries, bringing communities together through traditional dance, music, elaborate floral carpets (Pookkalam), and festive dining.

The 2026 celebrations at Aura featured an array of stage performances showcasing India's rich artistic traditions, attended by community members, families, and distinguished local guests.

Ms. Karoline Sweeney, President of Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Cllr. Jimmy Kavanagh, and Ms. Rebecca McDaid, AONTU, were dignitaries and guests of honour on the stage.

The guest speakers commended the Indian community for their positive contributions to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of Letterkenny and Donegal, highlighting the importance of multicultural celebrations in strengthening community integration.
