The €4.5 million Rathmullan Pier was officially opened on Friday evening.
Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Charlie McConalogue posted: "I was delighted to officially reopen Rathmullan Pier last evening following major refurbishment works that saw an overall investment of €4.5 million.
"The upgrading of local piers and harbours was a key priority for me while I was Minister for Agriculture, Food and Marine between 2020 and 2024. I am proud to have overseen investment of over €26.8 million in Donegal piers and harbours in that timeframe.
"The refurbishment of Rathmullan Pier was first sounded 30 years ago, so to see this project fully completed is fantastic.
I commend the commitment of Donegal County Council who managed and delivered this project together with consultants Nicholas O’Dwyer Ltd. I also commend the standard and efficiency of the work completed by the principal contractor, Cunningham Civil & Marine Ltd, and thank the local public representatives for the work they have done over the years, too.
"I have no doubt that this is a project that will reap dividends for many years come and the quality of the work will ensure that it stands the test of time. Last evening’s official opening was great occasion for the local community, and I look forward to the pier being enjoyed by many."
