St Naul’s Pipe Band in Ardaghey celebrated their 80th anniversary with a “lovely celebration.”

St Naul’s Pipe Band in Ardaghey celebrated their 80th anniversary with a “lovely celebration.”

The popular bagpipe band was formed in 1945, and festivities began with a Mass service at St Naul’s Church, before continuing celebrations in Inver Community Centre and a commemorative tree planting ceremony.

Donegal GAA’s Jim McGuinness was one of the well-wishers who attended.

Band member, Kieran Kennedy, told Donegal Live: “Everything went very well. It was well attended by the local community. A very good night was had by everybody.

“The band has been a tradition for the community for so long. It was always very well supported and respected in the community, our passion for music and the bagpipes.

“It was very well attended by past members of the band and local representatives who have always been supportive of the band. The band has always played at the local community for victorious teams and people. We are quite happy to have it.

“The lifespan of a member could be anything from two years to 73 years. The lifespan is so long, and you could spend your whole life in the band. You are never too old to play.”

An online statement by St Naul’s Pipe Band Ardaghey read: “Thank you to everyone who helped make this a very special occasion.

“A big thank you to Fr Sweeney for the lovely Mass ceremony, Inver Community Centre Committee for the lovely food supplied, Cllr Noel Jordan and Cllr Michael Boyle for their generous donations (and) everyone who travelled near and far.”
