Islanders are keen to record the number of visitors to the island

It is important to have counters on islands that will record the number of people who visit the island, a meeting of Coiste na noileán heard earlier today.

Eddie Joe McGee said that a lot of people visited Gola island this year however he did add it was a pity they couldn't be furnished with figures in relation to visitor numbers.

He was speaking during a meeting of Coiste na n-oileán and Glenties Municipal District on Arranmore Island today.

Máirín Ní Fhearraigh asked where the counter which had been on the pier on Gola Island had gone. An earlier meeting, was informed the counter was broken. The counter had been on the pier for a number of years.

Eddie said that he would like to be told when the counter is returned to the island adding that it could be placed somewhere else.

William Boyle said that a counter on Owey island would be appreciated.
