The Glenties native served in Carrickmacross and Pettigo before joining the traffic corps

It's the end of an era for Garda Ignatius McCready who retired from the force on March 10 after 40 years of service.

The Glenties native first service in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan before being stationed in the border town or Pettigo.

When the traffic Corps (now the Roads Policing Unit) was formed in Donegal Town in 1997 he was assigned to it and there he remained.

A garda spokesperson said: "Ignatius, we wish you and your family many years of happiness and good health in the future. Don't be a stranger! Happy retirement!"
