Appeal over approval of apartment plans in Muff

The decision to grant planning permission for an apartment development in Muff has been appealed.
Donegal County Council granted planning permission earlier this month to Ultan Doherty to build two blocks of apartments at a site at Ardmore, Muff, close to the centre of the village.
The site of the proposed development is in the Iskaheen Park estate and is close to Scoil Naimh BrÍd.
The plans for the proposed development received six objections, which raised concerns about the type of accommodation, its proximity, parking issues in an already congested area, the potential impact on the sewage system, loss of privacy and that the apartments would add to road safety issues in the area.
Following a request for further information from the council, planning was granted with 15 conditions. The council concluded that the proposed development is in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
Responding to the concerns raised in the objections, planners said the increase in traffic levels from the proposed development would not be particularly significant and car parking would be provided within the site for all potential occupants. The council said the development would only result in a minor increase in the number of pedestrians crossing the estate access road.
Smaller apartment dwellings would be a good contribution to the housing stock of the area, planners said.
A decision on the appeal is due in July.
