A talented Inishowen teenager has placed fifth overall in the U-17 girls category at the 2025 CLRG World Irish Dancing Championships in Dublin.

Sophie Gillespie impressed judges to come fifth out of 150 dancers at the prestigious tournament, taking home a coveted Globe trophy to her native Buncrana.

Her success in Dublin means that Sophie has now qualified for the finals of the 2026 CLRG [An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha] World Irish Dancing Championships, set to be held in the United States next Easter.

Sophie dances for the McConomy Bradley Doherty Academy in Derry and previously danced for the Cathy Hegarty School in Buncrana, until Cathy’s retirement from Irish dancing last year. Well done Sophie.
