Mary Bohan (FF) has been elected to Leitrim County Council for the 10th time

There's no stopping her! The evergreen Mary Bohan was elected to Leitrim County Council for the 10th time in a row last Sunday morning which she regards as “a great honour.”

“I'm humbled by the great vote I got again this time despite the fact we had 12 candidates running.

“The people have put their trust in me and that's very important for me and I respect what they've done and I certainly will be working as hard as I can for the next five years to deliver what we can for Co Leitrim.

“It's important that the 18 of us elected put on the Leitrim jersey and get on with supporting the people.

“There's lot of work to be done. The housing issue is one. We don't have adequate housing at the moment to service the need that's there. Migration is another one that has to be dealt with sensitively. We have a big long list of local improvement schemes. Obviously there's a lot of walkways and greenways and tourism projects to be done.

Mary retained special praise for her family and supporters. “I don't think anyone outside politics understands the pressure on families and it's important to have 100% support, my son and daughter put in a huge effort, and people that canvass with you and are behind the scenes. It's a big ask of them and I'm very grateful and humbled by the support I got.

“I've people that voted for me now that voted for me 45 years ago. Obviously we've lost some of them and we remember them at election time too,” she said.
