Carrick Town F.C.

U13 GROUP A

Carrick Town 3-0 Yeats United

It was MNF (Monday Night Football) in Balisodare this week for our u13s when we got back to league action and welcomed Yeats United for what would be a difficult test under the floodlights. Played on a beautiful crisp evening, we knew it was going to take a superb performance to bring the points home from this one.

We were quickest out of the blocks however and controlled the opening skirmishes, winning possession with hard work and then managing to utilise it and play our game. Pressure was building on the Yeats goal as the half wore on, with chances coming and going, but after 15 minutes a break into their area led to Adam R fizzing a ball in across the 6 yard box from the left and Flynn ghosting in from the right to calmly tuck it away into the bottom corner. 1-0.

From here on we continued to control the first half for the most part. Seán & Leighton at centre back kept things secure and anything that came Theo’s direction in goals was dealt with expertly. With Daragh patrolling midfield and James & AK bombing forward after snuffing out danger, more chances came and went with both Joel & Adam R firing narrowly over the bar. The commanding Yeats keeper also saved other attempts we had on target from Odhrán, Conor, Adam & Joel. This changed just before half-time though when Conor went on a run, turned his man, cut in from the right and curled a wonderful shot into the top corner. No keeper was going to stop that one. Goal of the Month contender. 2-0 HT.

After a high energy first half it was time for a breather, mix things up a bit and then back out to try more of the same. We continued to have the better of the game with fresh legs from Liam, Kop, Sasha, Adam M & Ollie all causing new problems. Numerous attempts and corners were dealt with by Yeats, but finally, with 10 minutes left on the clock, yet another corner led to confusion in the Yeats area and Adam M pounced on the loose ball to slot home, in off the post. 3-0.

It was an excellent night for the lads against a strong Yeats side. A full squad performance on display with everybody playing a crucial part in the result. Some very impressive football and sensational passing sequences played at stages. A team MOTM for this one. Well done everybody!
