The HSE has clarified the position in accessing use of the chapel and mortuary at St Patrick's Hospital in Carrick-on- Shannon.

Local councillors had raised queries on access to the facilities at recent council meetings.

Following enquiries the HSE clarified that “the chapel at St Patrick's Hospital continues to be available to facilitate the funeral arrangements of the deceased residents in St Patrick's Hospital and is currently not available to the public.”

The statement went to confirm that the mortuary at St Patrick's Hospital is available to the public.

“The arrangement in place is that the undertaker makes contact with management at St Patrick's Hospital to request the use of the mortuary - and it is open to the public/sympathisers, where the deceased lays in rest prior to removal,” noted the HSE.

A second room off the mortuary at St Patrick’s is currently not open to the public, according to the HSE.
