Dangerous depression on road near Aughavas needs urgent attention

An acute depression on a portion of the R201 near Aughavas is “posing a very dangerous situation to an unsuspecting motorist” and needs urgent attention.

Cllr Paddy O'Rourke raised the issue at the Ballinamore Municipal District meeting, calling on the Council to take the necessary steps to make safe the short stretch of road along the R201 in the townland of Drumshanbo North which has a very acute depression on the eastbound carriageway.

He was told the Council has assigned a restoration improvement grant to the R201 in 2024 which will incorporate any depressions on the regional road but will assess the current situation and advise if that grant needs to be pushed forward to 2023.

Darragh O’Boyle, District Engineer, said they are going to have to repair the depression as it is on a high volume, high speed road.

He agreed it is a matter of urgency and said they will take out the depression with their maintenance crew.
