The plans are to convert a vacant commercial unit in Carrick-on-Shannon into an amusement and gaming arcade.

A decision is due on a proposed change of use of a commercial unit in Carrick-on-Shannon, submitted on July 22, to turn the vacant commercial premises that was previously Paddy Power into a 21-plus amusement and gaming arcade.

In a letter to the planning department of Leitrim County Council, the developer described the application as “an opportunity to bring a currently unused commercial unit back into active use within Carrick-on-Shannon town centre.”

A decision on weather or not the development will get be approved is due on Tuesday, September 15.

The proposed amusement and gaming arcade would be open exclusively to people aged 21 and over and would operate seven days a week, from 11am to 11pm.

The applicant states that the operators have more than 16 years' experience successfully managing similar gaming premises in a neighbouring town and have established a strong record of responsible and professional operation within the leisure industry.

While alcoholic beverages will not be sold, water and non-alcoholic drinks will be available. The applicant also proposes installing a dedicated recycling bin for cans, adding they would be “delighted” to donate the proceeds towards Carrick Tidy Towns.

If the applicant is successful, the development is expected to provide employment for approximately 5 to 10 people.

Leitrim County Council has less than two weeks to make a decision on the planning application, due on Tuesday, September 15.
