Funding previously allocated to Leitrim County Council for works at the Masonite Junction has been reallocated to works at the entrance of the Lis Cara housing estate in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Funding had been sought for Lis Cara but was unsuccessful.

However the Council recently received approval to transfer funding from works at the Masonite junction.

District engineer, Darragh O'Boyle said the main culvert at the entrance to the Lis Cara estate was under-designed and is now broken.

He said that the reallocation of the Climate Action funding will “allow us to repair the culvert”.

However he stressed that the Council “cannot guarantee” there will be no further flooding at this site, noting that water levels here are “linked to the level of the Shannon”.

Carrick-on-Shannon MD councillors welcomed the news.
