Ireland’s finest performers quintet comes to Leitrim

Having performed at The Dock in 2017, Cassiopeia Winds, the quintet of the country's finest performers, returns to Carrick on Shannon this Saturday, October 14.

Formed in 2010, Cassiopeia Winds is an Irish chamber wind ensemble whose performances are marked by vivacity, panache and dedication to the exploration of fine sound worlds.

Together, these five friends have formed a group of Ireland's top wind players committed to sharing their passion for the superb wind quintet repertoire with audiences throughout the country.

Individually, they are Catriona Ryan, flute; Matthew Manning, oboe; Deirdre O'Leary, clarinet; John Hearne, bassoon; and Cormac Ó hAodáin, French Horn. Together, they are musicians at the top of their game who delight in playing chamber music together and sharing it with audiences.

With backgrounds in such venerable orchestras as the RTÉ National Symphony, the Royle Philharmonic, the Irish Chamber, the Wexford Festival Opera and the Crash Ensemble, amongst many others, the members of the quintet have musical resumés to die for.

They each inspire and refresh their audiences with their infectious enthusiasm for the music they play. Members of the group introduce each piece in the programme, engaging with and developing a rapport with their audience, drawing them in so that they feel almost like a sixth group member.

The ensemble aims with each performance to run the full and varied gamut of the wind repertoire from 19th-century to contemporary works. They are dedicated to bringing this repertoire's lesser-known works into the Irish and international concert halls and festivals.

Their concerts represent the startling originality and exoticism and the inimitable palette of tone colours of the wind ensemble.

The team at The Dock are delighted to bring Cassiopeia Winds back to Leitrim audiences on Saturday, October 14.
