Leitrim centenarian Imelda celebrates milestone 100th birthday

Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Cllr Paddy O’Rourke is pictured with Mrs Imelda Charles Cloone, who celebrated her 100th birthday recently.

Imelda thankfully enjoys good health and a clear mind and was delighted to receive hundreds of birthday cards which included one from the president Michael D Higgins, and also one from the Tánaiste and leader of Fianna Fáil Micheál Martin.

Some readers will be aware that Imelda’s late husband Peter Charles was a Fianna Fáil councillor for many years and passed away only in 2012 having lived to a great age.

Imelda told Cllr O’Rourke hard work doesn’t shorten anyone’s life and shouldn’t be feared as both her and her husband worked hard all their lives raising seven of a family whilst running a business and volunteering in their community.
