Leitrim native Louise Gallagher has achieved outstanding national recognition after winning the prestigious Judges’ Choice Impact Award at the Women in STEM Awards 2026, celebrating her contribution to science education and her work inspiring the next generation of young scientists.

The award recognises the exceptional impact Louise has made through Stemtacular Science Fair, an innovative educational initiative that has become a major celebration of science, creativity and discovery among young people.

For Louise, the achievement represents a significant personal milestone and a proud moment for County Leitrim, with her dedication to promoting STEM education receiving recognition on the national stage.

At the heart of Louise’s success is Stemtacular, a dynamic science fair that provides young people with an opportunity to showcase their scientific investigations, explore innovative ideas and develop confidence in their abilities.

Under Louise’s leadership, Stemtacular has developed into an exciting and inclusive celebration of STEM, bringing together students, teachers, scientists, industry professionals and educational partners.

The event encourages young people to recognise that science is something they can actively participate in and enjoy.

Her achievement in securing the Judges’ Choice Impact Award is particularly significant, recognising the wider educational and community impact of her work.

Louise’s influence on STEM education continues to grow, with her also taking on the important role of Project Leader for the joint Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils’ Science Week 2026 programme.

This major cross-county initiative represents another exciting opportunity to bring science to communities throughout the region, encouraging participation, curiosity and engagement among people of all ages.

Her appointment to lead the programme further highlights the confidence placed in her ability to develop, coordinate and deliver ambitious educational projects that make science accessible, relevant and enjoyable.

The role builds naturally on the success of Stemtacular and demonstrates how Louise’s work is helping to strengthen the profile of STEM education throughout Leitrim, Roscommon and beyond.

Adding to an already exceptional year, Louise has also been named a finalist in the Project Management for Social Good category at the PMI National Project Awards 2026.
