Public service unions have confirmed they will stage a second national stoppage next week

Public service unions have confirmed they will stage a second national stoppage next week if there is no breakthrough in pay talks.

The scheduled day of action is 12th November, which is Thursday of next week, for 24 hours. The planned strike is being put back for 24 hours.

However, this date will co-incide with planned meetings of EU leaders in Dublin, leading to severe disruption.

In the meantime, an ongoing work to rule is set to be ramped up.

The first day of industrial action took place last month.

The public sector unions have stated that 11 days of talks have not resulted in what was described as a “credible” pay offer.

The unions are seeking that the shortfall in public sector pay and inflation since 2021 is addressed.

Workers across Co. Leitrim participated in the one day stoppage last month.

The action will result in school closures, missed hospital appointments and other disruption to services.
