Sparks will be flying at Topline Mohill Community & Sports Hub (Mohill Sports Complex) on Sunday, October 29, when Mohill GAA Club hosts its first major fundraising event since 2019, the “Thrilla in Mohilla” a white collar boxing event.

28 brave souls have been training hard over the past 8 weeks in preparation for the big night. 24 males and 4 females have kindly agreed to participate in this event and fundraise for the club.

There have been numerous small fundraisers run over the past weeks by the participants which included table quizzes, soccer tournament, darts, poker, bake sale and even a win a heifer competition.

Under the careful coaching of Cathal O’Grady from White Collar Boxing Company in Dublin and our very own Mohill big hitter Stephen Flynn, the boxers have been put through their paces over the past eight weeks, and are hoping to do themselves justice on the big night.placeholder image

Now that the training is reaching a conclusion each contender will be matched with an opponent of similar capabilities in order to allow an exciting and even contest on the night.

The contestants are not only from Mohill but also some neighbouring parishes. Cloone, Eslin, Bornacoola and Annaduff are all being represented which will surely add some spice on the night. They also have one male representing Corlough, Co. Cavan and one from Boyle, Co. Roscommon who also have close ties to Mohill.placeholder image

Each fighter has their own main sponsor and each fight is also being sponsored by businesses near and far. There will be a total of 14 fights on the night.

Mohill GAA would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the sponsors and indeed everyone who have contributed to the event so far.

“This is the biggest fundraiser we’ve undertaken since 2019, and we are hoping for the support of the whole community,” says Club Treasurer, Lisa Boyle.

Tickets for the event are priced at €25 each and are widely available from any of the fighters, organising committee members and local shops. Tickets are a dual ticket which gives you entry to the event on the night and also gives entry to a draw with the main price being €2,500.
