Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Paddy Farrell has called St Mary’s Close, Carrick-on-Shannon “the forgotten centre of Carrick.”

The councillor was disappointed to hear the area will not be getting any funding for improvement.

Cllr Farrell said the people who live in that area were expecting to see improvements in their close after a lot of money was secured for the enhancement of the county town recently.

Leitrim County Council stated at the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District meeting last week, “The NTA visited this area recently and informed us that it does not meet the criteria for the Active Travel Investment program. Thus, other sources of funding will continue be explored in this regard.”
