North Leitrim road sinking and in ‘urgent need of repair’

Recent flooding of the Bonet River has led to damage on the Cloonaquinn road and at Cornastalk bridge.
Independent Cllr Felim Gurn explained that the road is now sinking at this location and is in “urgent need of repair.”
He brought forward a motion on the situation at a recent Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting asking that the North Leitrim area office assess the damage and see what can be done. He said it will only get worse.
Responding, the North Leitrim area engineer for Leitrim County Council Eric Gilroy, said that the road at this location is due for Restoration Improvement works in 2024.
“The North Leitrim Area Office will monitor the situation and look at remedial measures for the failed sections of road in 2023,” he added.
