Manorhamilton Chamber and Manorhamilton Town Team have been granted €50,000 to carry out a Feasibility Study and to carry out preliminary design and planning work including surveys on Manorhamilton's former courthouse.

Cllr Frank Dolan sought an update on the courthouse this week and stated “it is a shame to see such a building fall into dereliction year by year.” He noted that the building is now well serviced with a carpark. He admitted that “it will never be used as a courthouse again” but said there are groups in the town who have ideas for its use.

Cllr Dolan was supported by Cllr Sean McDermot who said the building is historic and has architectural value, he said it “should not be left as an eyesore.”

Cllr Felim Gurn who is part of the REDZ Town Team said the Feasibility study is a step forward and hopefully the building can be restored and that it has potential for an SLNCR museum.

Cllr Justin Warnock said it is “disgraceful” that a building would be left to fall into such disrepair.

Leitrim County Council said they are waiting on the formal letter for the grant and once that is received they can move forward.
