Recent survey says Leitrim new haven for work-life balance

Leitrim boasts affordability, connectivity and community spirit
Leitrim may not always appear at the top of “best places to live” lists, but it is fast gaining attention for its mix of affordability, natural beauty, and improving connectivity. A recent Switcher.ie survey highlights the county’s strategic location, offering access to neighboring counties like Sligo, Roscommon, and Cavan. This blend of semi-rural calm and robust transport links makes Leitrim a fitting choice for professionals, remote workers, and families seeking an escape from city pressures.
Leitrim Chamber President, Finola McGuire, stresses that reliable broadband has been key to the county’s new appeal.
“We benefit from faster, more reliable internet services—enough to accommodate any variety of digital ventures. For those who prefer an office atmosphere even while working remotely, enterprise centres and coworking spaces have begun popping up across Leitrim.”
Housing affordability is another draw. The county’s property prices remain significantly lower than in urban hubs like Dublin, allowing first-time buyers and families more accessible options.
“I am a resident here,” says McGuire. “We love it, my family loves it, and the pace of life is very comfortable. The house prices, when compared with the city, are more achievable. Our schools can take more pupils without the waitlists you often see elsewhere. It removes a lot of pressure.”
There is a well-connected bus route that runs through Carrick-on-Shannon multiple times a day, while train services also offer Wi-Fi to help passengers make the most of their travel time. McGuire observes that many professionals live in Leitrim and only commute to Dublin a couple of days a week, thanks to these convenient links.
The county’s scenic landscapes add to its allure. Popular natural attractions, including Glencar waterfall and Lough Key, offer a retreat from daily routines. Meanwhile, those craving coastal adventures can reach Sligo’s beaches in about 40 minutes.
“We’re 40 minutes from the beach in Sligo—Strandhill is fantastic for teenagers and anyone who loves surfing or just being by the sea. There really is a lot on offer here in rural Ireland.”
Combining affordability, community spirit, and natural beauty, Leitrim has positioned itself as a holistic destination for anyone seeking a fulfilling work-life balance. With broadband capacity and local amenities expand, the county continues to draw attention from families and professionals eager to trade urban congestion for Leitrim’s tranquil pace of life.
