Residents complain about late-night vandalism in Leitrim town

Residents in Carrick-on-Shannon say they often wake up to vandalism around the town after busy Saturday nights.
Carrick-on-Shannon has the busiest nightlife in Leitrim, with hen parties, stags, and other revellers coming to have a good time. However, residents have complained about the damage they wake up to around the town on weekends.
A Facebook post from a local photography page, Mark’s Photos, showing smashed flower pots outside an Airbnb on St. George’s Terrace last week, has sparked discussion.
The building, located near the main street of Carrick-on-Shannon, was converted into an Airbnb around 18 months ago by the owner. Since then, they have found their flower pots broken on Sunday mornings three times.
“This time, we sent it to the guards because we are just getting fed up. The pot is like €200 every time to replace,” says Grainne Doherty, whose father owns the building.
According to Grainne, no one has ever been caught. Gardaí are now following up with CCTV footage obtained from the Red Bank Restaurant across the road. She added that after this, they will get their own cameras installed. Gardaí were not able to confirm whether they had any suspects at this stage.
They are not the only ones who have noticed vandalism around the town, with others sharing similar incidents under Mark’s Photos’ Facebook post.
“Totally unnecessary, and I was disgusted at Christmas to see that the beautiful statues in the crib had been mindlessly smashed,” said one user.
Another wrote: “A good few bins on Main Street were purposely emptied, and rubbish was thrown all over the streets last night between 10:00 p.m. and 10:15.”
Meanwhile, a different user claimed that “respect for residents is long gone!”
