Road marking works in Drumkeeran have been pushed to January after funding ran out for 2026, prompting renewed calls for the issue to be addressed.

An issue with faded road markings in Drumkeeran, which has caused confusion for vehicles travelling south through the village, has been raised again.

The issue was first raised in September 2025 by Cllr Pádraig Fallon, who noted that Google Maps was incorrectly directing tour bus companies travelling through the village towards Sheena.

This had led to several near-miss traffic incidents, compounded by the faded road markings.

At October’s meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District, following on from the previous motion, Cllr Fallon asked when the promised road markings in Drumkeeran would be completed.

An official response noted that the relevant funding stream for the works had been exhausted for 2026, and the works are now scheduled for January.

Cllr Fallon said he was “disappointed” that the funding stream had been exhausted, noting that while the issue occurs all year round, it is particularly problematic around Easter, when coaches and tour buses begin to come out.

He asked that the work be completed before then.
