At May's Council meeting, Cllr Felim Gurn proposed that the senior team’s success be officially acknowledged by Leitrim County Council.

St Clare’s Comprehensive School Boy’s Senior Team, who claimed victory over Ennistymon CBS in the Masita All-Ireland PPS Senior C Championship in March, will be invited to attend either the July or September meeting of Leitrim County Council to be formally recognised for their achievement.

The Manorhamilton team secured a 1-17 to 1-13 win in Tuam, securing them the title.

Cllr Felim Gurn proposed that the senior team’s success be officially acknowledged by Leitrim County Council, highlighting the significance of their accomplishment, adding that “the future of Leitrim is looking great.”

The motion was seconded by Cllr James Gilmartin, who noted, “in what’s been a difficult year for Leitrim football it’s definitely been a highlight.”

He paid tribute to the school, the players and coach Shane Ward for their efforts.

In response, the Council confirmed that an invitation will be extended to representatives and management of the school team to attend either the July or September plenary meeting, during which their success will be honoured.

The reply also noted that the team will be eligible for nomination in the “Team of the Year” category at the Annual Sports Star Awards, organised by Leitrim Sports Partnership later this year.
