Melanie Ward replaces former minister Kirsty McNeill, who was moved to a role at the Foreign Office.

A Fife MP has been appointed as a minister to the Scotland Office.

Melanie Ward, who represents the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath seat, was elevated on Thursday after former minister Kirsty McNeill moved to a new role as development minister at the Foreign Office.

Ms Ward will be the junior minister for the re-appointed Douglas Alexander, who continues in the job under Andy Burnham.

In a post on X, Ms Ward said: “I’m honoured to be asked by the Prime Minister to serve as a minister in the Scotland Office.

“Our new Government is committed to bringing positive change for the people of Scotland.

“I’m looking forward to helping make that happen, and to getting started today.”

Mr Alexander welcomed the new minister to her role, while Ms McNeill described her as an “absolute star”.
