The Nigeria Community Carlow group are gearing up to host a festival this weekend.

A fashion and musical festival will kick off on Friday, July 3rd at The Exchange.

Festivities begin at 12pm, with a DJ playing on an open truck one of the key features, according to the Carlow Nationalist.

“It’s about sharing Nigerian music to the world,” said Adetula ‘Skipo’ Temiola, chairperson of the Carlow Nigerian Community Committee.

He commented on how Afrobeats are now accepted worldwide, with artists such as Burna Boy and Rema, skyrocketing to fame in recent years, and even playing during the recent World Cup opening ceremony.

“We want to talk about that, we want to play the music, we want the people of Carlow to understand Afrobeats,” Adetula said.

The festival is hoped to resemble the carnival that takes place every December in Nigeria.

There will be a masquerade, a runway fashion show highlighting Nigerian designers, and multiple types of African food.

There will be Gardaí and volunteers present to ensure that the event runs smoothly.

Everyone is welcome to join the free event, which is promised to be “a lot of fun.”
