Met Éireann is warning of continuous and persistant rainfall until early next week

A moderate warning for rainfall and flooding is in place for Carlow and will remain as such until the beginning of next week.

Spells of heavy rain will continue all this week.

Rain falling on already saturated ground, along with high river levels means floods are to be expected.

The moderate warning will remain in place until midnight on Monday, February 9th.

Carlow County Council is advising that locals closely monitor weather conditions.

The local authority posted an update on the weather situation to its Facebook page, where it stated that roads are still of "serious concern."

"A number of roads have been significantly damaged and are impassable, please do not pass road closed signs," it says.

A number of roads are closed, including in Tullow, Bagenalstown, and Graiguecullen.

Met Éireann is advising people to check with their local authorities regarding potential flood risks in each county.

However, it notes that with the continuous persistant rainfall, most counties will experience more floods.

"Rivers are expected to overflow their banks, and smaller tributaries may flood more rapidly," the website states.
