'Thugs' in Carlow 'destroy the spirit' of Halloween with anti-social behaviour

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to anti-social behaviour on Halloween in Carlow to come forward
Investigations are continuing into several anti-social behaviour and crime incidents that occurred in Carlow on Halloween night.
An Garda Síochána in Carlow received three separate reports of car damage and a number of firework-related calls.
Mortar-style fireworks were alleged to have been directed at a new community centre and cars on the Tullow Road, while roads and roundabouts were blocked by fires.
Claims were also made that a vehicle carrying a young child was struck by fireworks, according to KCLR.
Many people were left fearful, with some saying nobody came to help.
“While no buildings were reported damaged or persons reported injured, investigations have commenced in a number of areas, including an incident of public disorder in John Sweeney Park,” Garda Superintendent Anthony Farrell said.
Gardaí, the local fire service, and Carlow County Council came together ahead of Halloween to plan for the night.
Extra uniform crews were in place across the county to ensure people could “enjoy themselves and be safe.”
“Regrettably, the safety messaging did not reach everyone. A selection of young people tried to destroy the spirit of this family night, putting people in danger, including themselves. This is such a pity not only for them but also their families and their communities from where they come, who were most impacted by this poor behaviour,” Superintendent Farrell said.
Local Councillor Paul Doogue described the incidents as “thuggery.”
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV in connection with any Halloween-related incidents, including incidents of public disorder and criminal damage to three cars on Saturday last in John Sweeney Park, to contact An Garda Síochána, Carlow on 059- 9136620.
