An Garda Síochána are investigating a case of animal cruelty in Carlow

An Garda Síochána are investigating a case of animal cruelty after young people in Carlow caused a cat to be killed.

On Wednesday night around midnight, the group attached a firework to a cat’s tail on the Link Road.

Once it was lit, the cat ran out onto the road and was killed by a car.

Investigators at Carlow town Garda Station are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

Several communities have reported seeing the devices being lit and thrown at people or being set off late at night, according to KCLR.

It comes after over €2.2 million worth of fireworks were seized at Rosslare Europort earlier this week.

Revenue officers discovered the consignment in a trailer which arrived on a ferry from France on Sunday.

Revenue officers seized the fireworks, branded Black Cat Bangers, along with the trailer.

Officers questioned a man in his 50s in connection with the discovery, and investigations are ongoing.
