A Kilkenny councillor has asked the Municipal Engineer to consider installing three ramps along the Togher Road in Urlingford
Fresh calls have been made for traffic-calming measures along a North Kilkenny road after concerns that an existing safety scheme has failed to slow down motorists.
“Alarm bells are once again ringing along the Togher Road in Urlingford,” Cllr Michael McCarthy told Monday’s meeting of the Castlecomer Municipal District.
“While I was pleased to be involved with the Low Cost Safety Scheme carried out a number of years ago, unfortunately it has not had the desired effect of slowing down the traffic, in fact the opposite is the case.
“Therefore I am now asking the Municipal Engineer to consider the installation of three ramps along the road,” he added.
“To me ramps are the tried and trusted method of slowing down traffic and in this case will alleviate the concerns of the residents once and for all.”
