Kilkenny County Council has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closures.

Kilkenny motorists are being warned of a series of road closures on Saturday evening as a new street procession brings the story of Ireland’s first witchcraft trial to the city.

As part of Toil and Trouble, a street procession will take place in Kilkenny City on Saturday October 31, from 6pm to 8pm travelling from Wolfe Tone Street Car Park to Bateman Quay.

The following roads will be temporarily closed during the event: John’s Green, from Wolfe Tone Street to John Street; John Street, including John’s Bridge, from John’s Green to Bateman Quay; Bateman Quay, from John’s Bridge to Lady Dysart Bridge; Castlecomer New Road, from the roundabout at Hebron Road to John Street; Dublin Road, from O’Loughlin Road to John Street; Wolfe Tone Street, from Old Mart Street to John’s Green; and Michael Street, from St Francis Bridge to John Street.

The closures will temporarily affect seven bus stops and the John Street Taxi Rank. Advance warning signs will be erected at the affected bus stops and taxi rank.

Vehicular access to and egress from the River Court Hotel will be maintained via Maudlin Street.

While John Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the event, local access will be maintained on the other affected roads where practicable.

Alternative routes will be available via the Central Access Scheme and the Ring Road.

The newly established event will tell the story of Ireland’s first Witchcraft Trial of Alice Kyteler
