Draft byelaws are expected to go to public consultation in August

Draft byelaws on the regulation of burial grounds at St Kieran’s Cemetery and 13 other council owned cemeteries across the county are expected to go to public consultation at some point in August according to Director of Services with Kilkenny County Council Tim Butler.

The proposed byelaws follow concerns raised by councillors over anti-social behaviour in St Kieran’s cemetery in recent months.

Under the proposed byelaws, an application form to erect a headstone akerbing or to replace an existing headstone and kerbing would need to be submitted to the council.

Meanwhile, the erection of unauthorised monuments as well as the prohibition of criminal, lewd or offensive acts will also be covered under the proposed measures by Kilkenny County Council.
