Decision due soon on plans for pub in Kilkenny

A decision is due next week on development plans submitted back in December by Global Labour Facilities Holdings Limited in relation to 8 High Street, Kilkenny (The Tholsel Bar).
The original plans sought to erect a new timber shopfront with external signage and a fabric awning to the front and rear at ground floor level.
Also planned are minor internal alterations to the existing public house and for change of use of three upper floors from residential to short-term letting with direct access off High Street.
It is also planned to alter the basement area to incorporate new WC facilities and a beer storage area and for all other associated site works.
Kilkenny County Council have asked the applicant, through a period of consultation, to 'submit justification for the proposal to lose this significant family unit to the short-term rental market with reference to its recent occupancy history'.
They have also asked the applicant, amongst other things, to explore creative ways of retaining some of the coloured glazed panels in the new shopfront to the front and rear.
A final decision is expected to be made by next Tuesday, June 11.
