Evergreen FC has renamed their Kilkenny grounds in honour of club legend Mick Hennessy.

Evergreen Park has officially been renamed Mick Hennessy Park in a tribute to one of the most influential figures in the Kilkenny club's history.

The announcement was met with a standing ovation as Evergreen FC gathered to celebrate a remarkable milestone of 80 years in existence in Langtons this week.

Club members, friends and families coming together to reflect on eight decades of memories, achievements and community spirit.

However, it was a moment shortly after dessert that provided the night's biggest talking point.

“A name synonymous with Evergreen, Mick's contribution to the club has spanned generations, helping shape it into the institution it is today,” a club spokesperson said.

“Evergreen Park is no more. From now on, the home of Evergreen FC will be known as Mick Hennessy Park,”

The announcement prompted a rapturous round of applause, with those in attendance rising to their feet to give Mick a heartfelt standing ovation.

“The emotion and delight from him was evident though as he sat amongst his beloved family and his Evergreen friends. A short few words ensued and it was clear what this honour and what this club means to him. Mick, we want you to know what you mean to us,” the club added.

“This is a fitting tribute as this club would not be what it is today without you. A special night, an unforgettable surprise and a tribute that will stand for generations.
